Former US President Donald Trump returned to Facebook on Friday after more than two years away, posting a two-word message “I’m back.”
The post was accompanied by a 12-second video of him addressing a jubilant crowd after winning the 2016 presidential election. “Sorry to keep you waiting… it’s a complicated business,” he said.
Trump’s use of Facebook, and other platforms such as Instagram and Twitter, had been banned after a mob of his supporters attacked the Capitol building on January 6, 2021 following his loss of the election to current President Joe Biden.
Trump has been charged with spreading misinformation about the election and inciting violence.
Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, lifted the ban on Trump last January, but Trump stayed away.
YouTube also lifted restrictions on Trump’s account on Friday.
