World Premiere of the Saudi Film "Anna and Aidarous"

A new success is witnessed by the Saudi film “Anna and Aidarous”, after announcing its participation in the official competition and showing it internationally for the first time during the “Aspen Short Film Festival” in America, from 10 to 16 April next, after a few weeks of participation in the market of the “Clermont” festival. The Aspen Short Film Festival is considered one of the most important international festivals eligible to compete for the Academy Awards. Its annual events include film screenings, panel discussions, workshops and many activities that encourage short filmmaking.
Written and directed by Sarah Belghoneim, the film “Anna and Aidarous” revolves around the beginning of the millennium, about the story of a wild young woman, who tries to get rid of her family’s chauffeur, while sneaking to meet her lover.
The work was produced by Raed Al-Semari, Salman Al-Musaed, and co-producer Khaled Al-Sudairi, and Ida Al-Qusay and Bella Muhammad Al-Fadhel will participate in the tournament.

After announcing the film’s participation in the activities of the “Aspen” festival, Sarah Belghoneim, a Saudi resident between Riyadh and New York, spoke about the film in a press release, explaining: “I wanted through this film to embody the absurdity of the dating methods that this conservative society used to, in addition to Looking at the complex and multi-layered relationship – formal, beautiful, confusing and unconventional – between a young woman and her chauffeur in these respective circumstances, given their differences in class, age and customs.(Aidros and I) A comedy about a young woman’s struggle for her natural right and freedom of choice, with complications due to the clash between “Values ​​and customs and their dependence on their driver. I want the viewer to wonder, laugh and remember that era and the innovative attempts and solutions to adapt to a conservative society, when it comes to getting what we want to exercise our basic need for intimacy and connection.”
It is worth noting that the movie “Aidaroos and I” won the Wasserman Award, which is considered the highest honor from New York University, in recognition of distinguished films.
