Istanbul reopens "Sunken Palace" after restorati

Last Friday, the city of Istanbul reopened the landmark “Yerepatan” tank, or the submerged palace, after completing its restoration

At the opening ceremony, the leader of the Republican People’s Party (the largest Turkish opposition party), Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, considered the city of Istanbul as a world heritage that should be preserved. As reported by Anadolu Agency. 

“Istanbul is an ancient city that was the capital of three empires in history,” Kılıçdaroğlu said.

He stressed the need to protect the historical monuments in Istanbul and pass them on to future generations.

As for the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, he touched on the delicate restoration of the historical and tourist landmark.

He also touched on the campaign: “150 projects in 150 days” to restore Istanbul’s monuments.

He promised that the city will witness in the coming days many restoration activities.

And “Yere Batan” is the largest ground tank among many water tanks under the old city of Istanbul, and it was built during the Byzantine era near the Hagia Sophia Mosque today
