Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, gave her first speech in Britain since she and her husband Prince Harry gave up their royal duties, telling a summit of young leaders that they were contributing to “positive and necessary change” in the world.

The letter came a week after the publication of an interview with The Cat magazine, in which she again criticized the way the royal family dealt with her and Harry, causing a new stir in British newspapers.

“It’s really nice to be back in Britain,” Meghan said in the keynote address at the One Young World Summit in Manchester, northern England, which was also attended by her husband, Harry, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth.

“You are the future, but I would like to add to that, you are also the present. You are leading the positive and necessary change that is needed around the world right now at this very moment,” she added.

Megan recounted her first experience with the summit in 2014 when she was invited to serve as a consultant for the event.

“I’m so glad my husband was able to join me here this time,” she said, to the cheers of the crowd. “Meeting you again here on British soil with him by my side makes me feel right back at the starting point.”

Harry and Meghan abandoned their royal duties more than two years ago and have not appeared in public in Britain since then until their participation in the platinum jubilee celebrations of Queen Elizabeth’s accession to the throne in June.

However, they continued to attract significant media attention, partly due to the strained relationship between Harry, his older brother Prince William and his father, Prince Charles, heir to the throne.

British newspapers said that Harry had no plans to meet his brother during the current visit, indicating that the two brothers have not yet been able to overcome their differences.
