No one can deny the fact that the Academy Awards ceremony is one of the most prestigious and important events in the world for filmmakers and film lovers alike, and every time, many compete and get very excited to see if their work has been praised and garnered positive reviews from the audience. The critics embraced it, and eventually got that gorgeous statuette to keep among their collectibles.

But this Oscar statuette is designed in such a way that it looks like it’s holding something in its arms, and you might be wondering what it is and what it is?

First, the appearance of this statue for the first time in 1929, to add some prestige to the Academy Awards, or to those who are running for it, as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences that awards the Academy Award was established in 1927 and held a dinner in the Crystal Ballroom at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, Its aim was to define the goals of the organization, including discussions about the best way to honor the laureates.

There they agreed that the award would be annual, and then they began to think about the type of trophy that could be awarded to the winners. Accordingly, director and producer Cedric Gibbons designed the trophy, and chose it to be in the form of a small statue of a knight standing on a film reel, while holding a sword in his hands, and then, Sculptor George Stanley was commissioned to bring the design to life.

Since then, the design of this statue has not changed, as it has remained constant in the form designed by Cedric and sculpted by Stanley, as more than 3,000 statues are presented to the talented filmmakers.

Each January, new sculptures are made in New York’s Hudson Valley by the Beaux-Arts foundry at Polich Tallix.

The pulley on which the statue stands represents the original five branches of the Academy: actors, directors, producers, technicians, and writers.

This award is a dream for many actors, first because of its great moral value, and secondly because of its benefit to them, as according to an economic thesis for a master’s degree from Colgate University, the winning stars increase their wages and earnings by 81%.
