Argentine star Lionel Messi surprised everyone by excluding his country from the list of candidates to crown the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker revealed the names of five candidates for the 2022 World Cup, noting that he considers Brazil and France the main contenders to win the tournament.
“The nominees? The big teams are like Brazil, Germany, France, England, Spain, and I’m sure I forgot some too,” Messi told Direct TV.
He added: “If I wanted to keep only one or two candidates, I would say that Brazil and France are the most likely candidates to win the World Cup.”
Messi explained: “France, unlike the last European Cup, which was not good, has great players, and coach (Didier Deschamps) himself for a long time, as well as Brazil.”
Messi spoke of his biggest fears about the World Cup, and admitted that he was afraid of injuries, which would not allow him to participate in the tournament.
Messi stressed at the same time that it is better to act as usual in the stadiums, without thinking about the risks and possible consequences for health.
The World Cup will be held in Qatar from November 20 to December 18, and France will play in Group D along with Australia, Denmark and Tunisia, while the Brazilians will compete in Group G with Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon.
