Egyptian antiquities officials announced yesterday the discovery of a hidden nine-meter-long passage behind the main entrance to the Great Pyramid of Giza, which they said could lead to more discoveries. This discovery came within the framework of the (Skan Pyramids) project, or the exploration of the pyramids, which has been using modern technology since 2015, including surveys and internal binoculars, to reveal the hidden secrets of the pyramid. Mostafa Waziri, secretary-general of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, said the unfinished corridor was likely built either to lighten the weight of the pyramid above the main entrance seven meters below it, or to lighten the weight of a chamber or other undiscovered space.
