Buckingham Palace announced today (Saturday) that the funeral service for Queen Elizabeth II will take place on September 19 at Westminster Abbey in London at 11:00 (10:00 GMT).
The palace confirmed that the body of the queen, who died Thursday at the age of 96, will then be transferred to St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, west of London.
His body is currently lying in a coffin covered with the Royal Flag of Scotland, on which a wreath was laid, in a hall at Balmoral Palace in northeastern Scotland.
The Queen’s coffin will be carried by road 290 km from the outlying residence to Holyrood House in Edinburgh on Sunday.
In the Scottish capital, the coffin will be taken from Holyrood House to St Giles’ Cathedral, where it will remain until Tuesday.
He will later be flown to Buckingham Palace in London before the Queen is laid to rest in Westminster Hall from Wednesday.
