The Tunisian star, Hend Sabry, has become the first Arab artist to compete with her film in the official competition for feature films, within the activities of the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which will be held from 16 to 27 May.
And the festival management officially announced the selection of the Tunisian film “Bint Olfa”, starring Hend Sabri, written and directed by Kawthar Ben Hania, to compete in the most prominent “Cannes Film Awards”, which gives the Tunisian star a strong impetus to enhance her presence in international cinema.
Hind commented on the choice of her film, with her sense of pride, recalling that her first cinematic work that she presented in 1994, entitled “The Silence of the Palaces”, won the Golden Camera Award from the Cannes Festival, after he participated in the “Un Certain Regard” program, which is the film directed by the late Moufida Al-Tlatli.
And the movie “Bint Olfa”, which was filmed in Tunisia last year, is a movie within a movie, derived from a true story of a woman named “Olfa” who has four daughters, and how the director and author sees the life of this woman cinematically in a way that combines documentary and drama, as if it were a movie. Hind Sabry has more than 31 cinematic films, during which she won many first acting awards, including: Best Actress at the Carthage Film Festival twice, and Best Actress at the El Gouna Festival. She also won the Faten Hamama Award from the Cairo International Film Festival as the first artist of her generation to win this award. Award, and she participated in the jury of the first work competition at the Venice International Film Festival in 2019.
