The festival management announced the selection of the movie “Jeanne du Barry”, by French director and actress Maywen, as the opening film.

The film is based on a true story, and the director embodies the role of the character mentioned in the title, Jeanne Vaubernier, a young French working-class woman who craves culture and pleasure, takes advantage of her intelligence and charisma to climb the social ladder, and becomes a concubine of King Louis XV (embodied by Johnny Depp), who does not know The fact that she works as a prostitute, falls in love with her, and invites her to move to the Palace of Versailles, which causes a scandal within the royal court.

According to the festival’s official statement, the film is the sixth in Maywen’s directorial career, which began in 2006 when she presented the movie “Forgive Me” (Pardonnez-moi), revealing her cinematic directorial identity, as she stars in her films and freely discusses ideas that prompt her. In 2011, Maywen won the Best Director Award from the Cannes Festival, during her first participation in the official competition with the movie “Polisse”, before participating again in 2015 with the movie “My King”, for which the star Emmanuelle Berco won the award for best. an actress.

The film opens the festival on the night of May 16, the same day it is released commercially in French cinemas.
