Sri Lankan writer Sheehan Karunatilaka won the 2022 Booker International Prize for Fiction for his novel The Seven Moons of His Excellency Almeida.
British news agency BA Media said judges praised the writer for the “scope, skill, daring and joy” of his second novel.
The novel is a grim comic murder mystery set in Colombo in the 1990s during the Sri Lankan Civil War.
The novel revolves around Ma’ali Almeida, a war photographer and gambler trying to find out who killed him on seven moons.
The value of the prize is 50 thousand pounds sterling.
