Instagram allows content creators to link multiple short videos into a single series
The social media platform Instagram has begun allowing content creators to link multiple videos (Reels) into a single series.
TechCrunch, a technology website, noted that this new feature, already available on rival platform TikTok, makes it easier for viewers to follow and discover relevant content.
With the new feature, if a creator is telling a story in a series of videos and follow-ups, they can link them all together, saving viewers the hassle of scrolling or searching for different parts. For example, creators often ask their followers to “come back for part 2” or follow updates. With this new feature, creators can organize related videos to make it easier for viewers to follow along.
While the new feature is useful for connecting different parts of a story with multiple themes, it can also be used to compile similar videos.
For example, if a content creator produces a series of fall recipes, they can now group them all together to make them easier to find.
Creators can also link videos together when adding annotations or by clicking the submenu in previously shared videos. After a creator links videos together into a series, users will be able to skip to the next clip using a new button at the bottom left of the clip.
Instagram noted that the new feature has been well-received and will enable richer storytelling while keeping audiences engaged for longer, potentially leading to increased viewing time.
The Meta Platforms-owned platform also explained that it could help convert casual viewers into followers.
TechCrunch noted that while the new feature doesn’t represent a radical change, it’s a useful addition for both content creators and viewers, making it easier to find and follow content on the platform.
