Superhero movie “Black Adam” snatched the top spot at the North American box office this weekend, according to preliminary figures announced Sunday by specialist company Expeter Relations.
In this DC Comics movie, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson plays Teth Adam, an ancient slave with supernatural powers who, after being released from prison for too long, finds the world has turned hostile.
Franchise Entertainment Research analyst David A. Gross says it’s no surprise that the movie has a strong start, as superhero movies are generally very popular with audiences.
“Black Adam,” which also stars Pierce Brosnan, earned $67 million, well ahead of the competition.
“Titte to Paradise” grossed only $16.3 million, but Gross nevertheless considered it “a very good result for a romantic comedy in its first week.”
The film features an elite group of stars, led by Julia Roberts and George Clooney, who play an ex-couple who put their differences aside and travel to Bali to try to prevent their daughter’s marriage, which they consider to be too hasty.
The atmosphere of the film, which ranked third, is “Smile”, as it is a type of psychological horror, and its income amounted to 8.4 million dollars.
This film tells the story of a therapist (Susie Bacon, daughter of actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick) who suffers from disorders after witnessing a horrific event related to one of her patients.
The bloody horror movie “Halloween Ends” fell from first to fourth place, recording eight million dollars in revenue, and it tells the story of the terrifying masked killer Michael Myers.
Fifth came a movie of a completely different genre, “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile”, which was adapted from a children’s book, with revenues of $4.2 million.
The film centers on a young boy who befriends a crocodile with the ability to sing, who is found in the attic of his new home in New York. Javier Bardem plays the crocodile owner.
Here are the five remaining films in this week’s ranking:
6. “The Woman King” ($1.9 million)
7. “Terefire 2” ($1.9 million)
8- “Don’t Worry Darling” ($880,000).
9. Amsterdam ($818,000)
10. “Triangle of Sadness” ($600,000)
