Actor Will Smith has posted an emotional new apology for slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars earlier this year, revealing in a lengthy video that he reached out to the comedian who wasn’t “ready to talk” yet.
Smith who won the Academy Award for Best Actor, took to the stage in March and slapped Rock after he made a joke about his wife, in an incident that overshadowed the high-profile cinematic that was broadcasted around the world.
“I called Chris and he said he’s not ready to talk, and when he is, he’ll call me,” Smith said in the six-minute video.
“Chris, I apologize. My behavior was unacceptable. I am ready to speak to you when you are ready to talk about it
Smith made a public apology shortly after the incident, and was banned from attending the Academy Awards for the next 10 years after the slap.
The 53-year-old also resigned from his membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, although the organization did not cancel his award for best actor for his role in the movie “King Richard”.

He concluded by saying, “I am a human being and I made a mistake, and I try not to see myself as an idiot.”
