A toxicologist revealed the danger of excessive doses of vitamin C.
Dr. Alexei Vodovozov, a toxicologist, said that taking excessive doses of vitamin C leads to the formation of stones in the kidneys.
According to him, the side effects of taking vitamin C are very minimal, but in certain cases – when excessive intake of this vitamin – it has disturbing consequences.
He says: “The upper limit of the dose of this vitamin according to modern standards is 2000 milligrams (2 grams) per day. Eating more than this amount can cause nausea and diarrhea. In addition, when taking vitamin C for a long time, it can lead to a change in the degree of Acidity of the urine, which increases the risk of kidney stones, especially in men.
The doctor points out that a lack of vitamin C in the human body leads to scurvy, which is characterized by gum problems, tooth loss and slow wound healing due to low collagen production, according to Russia Today.
And the doctor advises taking 50-110 mg of vitamin C per day. Because this dose allows to bypass the consequences of its excess or deficiency in the body.
