The death of Queen Elizabeth II caused many changes within the British royal family, most notably the rise of King Charles III to the throne, and the naming of Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, Princes of Wales, who are expected to assume more duties and positions in the near future.
And sources close to King Charles, and before the death of the Queen, had expected that the former would reduce the number of working royal family members to 8 people: the King himself, Queen Camilla, Prince Edward, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, Princes William and Kate, and Princess Anne. However, these expectations were not actually correct, as the king kept the number of working members of the royal family at 11 people, at least for the time being, and they are, in addition to the previous names, cousins of the late Queen Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra, the Duke of Gloucester and his wife, the Duchess of Gloucester who continued to perform their duties. A royal source asserts that there are no current plans to actually change anything on this front.
The most famous member of the royal family
A new poll of public opinion was conducted in the United Kingdom, to find out who are the most popular among members of the royal family, and the result of the poll came without any surprises, as the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate Middleton, were chosen to be the most popular.
Prince William came first in the poll conducted by the British company Ipsos, after receiving 69% of the votes of the participants, while Kate Middleton won 67%, and Princess Anne came third with a vote of 64%.
Although he ranked fourth, King Charles III expressed his happiness with these results, especially as his popularity rose by 11%, compared to the previous poll conducted in March of this year.
Gideon Skinner, of Ipsos, commented on these findings, saying: “The popularity of the new Prince and Princess of Wales must give confidence to the monarchy for its future. For now, the royal family and the new king are showing that they can maintain public support in this new era.”
Prince William is expected to play a prominent role in the coronation of King Charles, and to be a member of the coronation committee. The coronation is also expected to be attended by William and Kate’s oldest children: Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Royal writer Katie Nicholl commented in Vanity Fair: “The ceremony is likely to highlight the line of succession, with William and Kate present, and their children will also stand out more from the rest of the family.
