Israel targets Hamas leadership in Qatar

Qatar describes Israel’s attack as cowardly

A series of explosions rocked the Qatari capital, Doha, today, particularly in the Katara district. Al Arabiya sources confirmed that the Israeli strike in Doha targeted a Hamas negotiating delegation discussing US President Trump’s proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages

In the same context, a Hamas source confirmed to Al Arabiya that the negotiating delegation in Qatar was targeted during the meeting. Meanwhile, an Israeli official stated that Tel Aviv targeted Khalil al-Hayya, head of Hamas’s political bureau, and that he was killed in the attack, in addition to Zaher Jabarin, a member of the movement. Al Arabiya sources also suggest that Khaled Meshaal, the movement’s leader, was among those who attended the meeting.

An Israeli official stated that Tel Aviv informed Washington of the attack against Hamas in Qatar and offered full support. Meanwhile, Qatar strongly condemned the Israeli attack, which targeted the residential headquarters of several members of Hamas’s political bureau in the Qatari capital, Doha, describing it as “cowardly.”

It stated that the criminal attack constitutes a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms and a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents in Qatar. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that security, civil defense, and relevant authorities immediately began dealing with the incident and taking the necessary measures to contain its consequences and ensure the safety of residents and surrounding areas.

Doha, which maintains ties with both Israel and the United States, is conducting a high-level investigation in its role as a mediator between Hamas and Tel Aviv, and has confirmed that it will reveal further details as they become available
