iPhone 17: Release details and new accessories ahead of September event
Apple is preparing to hold its highly anticipated special event to unveil its new iPhone 17 lineup on September 9.
The announcement is also expected to include the release of an ultra-thin phone, likely called the iPhone 17 Air, according to a Forbes report.
The event is titled “Awe Dropping,” a nod to the technical surprises the phone may offer in terms of its lightness and innovative design.
This year marks the last year Apple will release its smartphones in the traditional format, as the company is expected to change its iPhone release strategy starting in 2026.
According to reports from Forbes, MacRumors, and reliable leaker Ming-Chi Kuo, the September 2026 releases will be limited to the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Air, and the foldable iPhone 18 Fold, while the base model will be delayed until spring and launched alongside the iPhone 18e in 2027.
iPhone 17: Release Schedule and Pre-Orders
Pre-orders for the iPhone 17 are expected to begin on September 12 at 5:00 AM Pacific Time, with iOS 16 expected to be released on September 15.
The new operating system will support all phones, from the iPhone 11 to the newer models, with advanced features that only work on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the iPhone 16 series.
Official reviews of the phone will begin on September 16, while the devices are expected to arrive in stores and for pre-orders on September 19, depending on the time zone in each country, making some markets like New Zealand and Australia among the first to receive the new devices.
New accessories and technical equipment
MacRumors reports that the new models will be accompanied by advanced accessories, including liquid silicone and TechWoven cases, replacing the previous FineWoven and leather cases with improved durability.
The iPhone 17 Air is also expected to feature a smart battery and a case similar to the iPhone 4, along with a magnetic crossbody strap. This is a handy strap that secures the phone or accessories to the body, making them easy to carry and always within reach. It helps reduce the risk of dropping the device, provides quick and easy access to it on the go, and adds a modern touch to clothing and accessories.
The third-generation AirPods Pro are also set to be unveiled, featuring heart rate monitoring, improved active noise cancellation, and an improved earbud design with a smaller charging case and a hidden pairing button. Another potential feature of the iPhone 17 Pro is reverse wireless charging for AirPods.
In addition to the phones, Apple will announce two new watches: the Apple Watch Series 11 and the Apple Watch Ultra 3, while the possibility of an Apple Watch SE 3 remains, but is less likely.
These releases are part of Apple’s annual product renewal strategy, focusing on innovation in design and performance, in preparation for upcoming changes to the release schedule and the company’s plans to
