Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal said today, Sunday, that striker Memphis Depay will miss the Netherlands’ first match in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar against Senegal on Monday.
Depay injured his hamstring while playing for his country against Poland in the UEFA Nations League last September but told reporters this week that he was fully fit and ready to play after participating in training.
On tomorrow’s match in Group A, Van Gaal said, “This will be a blow to us, just as Sadio Mane’s absence from the Senegal national team is a blow to them as well.”
Van Gaal makes sure that the players participating in the matches are in full fitness and top performance.
