
Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa said that US President Donald Trump had taken a major step toward Syria by lifting sanctions, calling on the world not to collude in the killing of Syrians again by obstructing this step.
In an interview with the CBS program “60 Minutes,” the Syrian president stressed the need to restore good, direct US-Syrian relations, expressing his hope to meet the US president again to push for this.
Al-Sharaa met with Trump in Saudi Arabia on May 14, days after his visit to Paris, where he was received by French President Emmanuel Macron .
Regarding the situation in Syria, Sharaa said in his interview with journalist Margaret Brennan, “We have restored hope to refugees and displaced persons so they can return to their homeland,” emphasizing in the same context that “the world must not again collude in the killing of the Syrian people by obstructing the lifting of sanctions.”
CBS News reported that arrangements are underway for a meeting between the US President and his Syrian counterpart during the UN General Assembly meetings in a few days
